Sometimes it’s hard to find the right words to start a blog post… I probably wrote a dozen sentences to start this one off, and then erased all of them. Here’s the thing- when I photograph a friend, especially one who is in the wedding industry, all I can think about is making the experience as perfect as possible. From start to finish. To be fair, I really try hard to do that for everybody. But there is something to be said when you have a special friend that you want to showcase in photos. Now this isn’t the first time Randi and her family have been in front of my lens, and I must say, each time gets better and better! This shoot was a special celebration because little miss Layla is celebrating her first birthday!
We originally had planned on using a different location, but, I stumbled upon this area and it was the most ideal spot in every way! I am now referring to this outdoor space as the TWP studio…it’s so great! The time of day was insanely perfect because the light was exactly where I wanted it to be… low/directional and golden. We sprayed ourselves with bug spray and then basically went to frolic in the field. Well, kinda. I was so in love with the fashion style…and those flower crowns!!! C’mon! My heart was melting! After some family photo fun and a few solos of the birthday girl, it was time to give this little girl her cake!
Randi and Craig both thought this was going to be the messiest cake smash ever! However, Layla had her own plans. She was so gentle and carefully spooned one finger full of frosting at a time. After each taste of frosting she clapped! That was the best part! It was like she knew that she was in a photo shoot and wanted to keep it classy! It was seriously the cutest thing ever. After some time passed, Randi and Craig helped her out a little and then she wasn’t shy to dig right in! Her facial expressions were just darling!
Randi, Craig and Layla- you guys are just the cutest. What else can I say?! I am so honored to document all these special moments for your family… it is such a blessing to see you all grow in love. Happiest first birthday to you, Layla! May all your dreams come true!

Absolutely love it! What a little cutie she is. And that princess crown is out of this world. 🙂
