Here’s a confession: I have a slight obsession with a girl named Heidi. Heidi Lynn Benjamin. Not in a creepy way, but in a “you’re-sooo-cool, I-admire-you-so-much” type of way. Heidi is an artist, lover to a guy named Frank, photographer, owner of Takk, and occupant of the most beautiful face ever. For real. I have been asking her to get in front of my camera lens for over three years. Not kidding. One of the things I admire most about Heidi is her style and individuality. She’s somewhere between indie/alternative meets classic European beauty. All I know is I’m a big fan. Huge. When Heidi finally agreed to a portrait session I was over the moon excited! I suggested doing the portrait session at Takk, her new creative venue space. When I got the tour, I was on creative overload! From the beautiful natural light to the décor…I was just about drooling. So, what is Takk? It means “thank you” in Icelandic. Below I’ve shared an excerpt from the Takk House website… it is so beautifully written and gives you a glimpse into Heidi’s world.
“Now that might raise a second question… the “thank you house”? Well, yes! The basis of most celebrations is gratitude. Thank you for coming. Thank you for inviting us. Thank you for everything you’ve done. Thank you for being in our lives. Thank you for caring. Takk House is the house of gratitude. A space to celebrate with the people in your life that you are thankful for. Takk.”
Days like this mean so much to me…it’s my equivalent of playing on a playground at recess. I had so much fun with Heidi… and I’m pretty sure at times she thought I was a little strange. But I’m okay with strange. Strange is good. I didn’t always believe that, but now I embrace it! Thank you, Heidi, for letting me into your world …You are a true beauty and inspiration. Thank you for letting me celebrate you…Takk.
